Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Finally, there is music in the air! The noise and excitement of Football, Volleyball, Wrestling & Basketball are done, and there is MUSIC In the Air - lets rock!

Remember the pep band at the HMB basketball games? Good aren’t they?  Now it is their turn and their time to shine! Music is in the Air!

HMB High School Concert - FREE -

May 6, Tuesday @ 7:00 PM at HMB Gym.

You probably missed the HMB Elementary Concert was held April 24th.  We went - we heard - we loved it!  Wish you could have been there!

The musical talent of the Elementary students are so astounding!  K-6 sang,  played instruments and entertained the audience in the best of ways.  Soloists, that are better than many adults; instrumentalists that have won Blue Ribbons at contest and most of all - the joy of children singing, laughing and doing what they do best - loving life, enjoying each other and giving their ALL to those that came to see them.

The crowd was small. The kids were troupers & very entertaining. They were sadly disappointed at having only a fraction of the attendance expected. Everyone wishes you could have been there. (sigh)

Well you have a second chance to support our school!

May 6 - Tuesday, 7:00 PM is the HMB HS Concert – Free!

Please come this time.

Band, Chorus, Small groups - the whole ball of wax!  It is ALWAYS a GOOD performande.  These kids have Talent!  There are several groups that Starred at Contest and will complete at State.  They have worked hard and accomplished great goals; they deserve to have someone like YOU showing your support.

These kids ‘rock’ and you deserve to hear them.  Besides - No one turns down ’free fun’.  See you there.

The BIRDS are back!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Well, I might not be the most observing, but I have seen my first full red breasted Robin!  A great sign of spring!  But that is NOT the only ‘birds’ that are back.  Yep, some of those Snow Birds have come back to North Dakota to rest & roost.  It MUST be spring!

I have a sister & brother-in-law that have spent a lot of time in Texas, and even made their full time residence there for a couple years.  But - you guessed it.  These two Snow Birds have come back to North Dakota to stay.   Whoopee!

Our community welcomes back all those that have been gone.  It is great to have back you with us.  We have missed having you ‘home’, supporting and encouraging our community, it’s businesses and the school.

Welcome Back - to all you birds!

Family, friends and the ‘good ole North Dakota spirit’ seems to attract citizens like magnets to our state.  So regardless if you are a ‘new-commer’ to North Dakota or just one of the ‘old crows’ we are glad to have your face in our state.   (Sorry sis, I mean ‘old crow’ in the most loving of ways.)

Welcome back ‘Snow Birds’ .  I have missed you just as much as the Robins.

Meet “The Wizard of Oz” in Hazelton!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

“The Wizard of Oz” will be at HMB School Gym April 13 & 14 at 6:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door. Cost of Tickets: Adults $5.00; Students $3.00; Preschool Free.

Be there with Dorothy, Scare Crow, Lion, Tin Man & Toto to meet the great Wizard of Oz.   It promises to be a very musically entertaining experience for the whole family.

There are about 15 kids in the main cast who have been practicing since January.  Several more will become involved before it is all over.  These kids work very hard to learn their lines and characters for the three performances that will be given.   It means a lot to these kids if you could show them your support.  Please plan to attend. It promises to be a very entertaining experience for the whole family.  We are very proud of each of them.

The April 4, 5 & 6th production was postponed as our community mourned the loss of our friend, Mike Mastel.  On Saturday, April 5th, the gym filled with family and friends for Mike’s funeral service.  We recognize Mr. Mastel and his family for exemplary support to our school and community.   His son is one of the cast members for this production.

HMB Prom Dates!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Here’s notice of an important date for HMB School - the Prom date!

HMB Junior Senior Prom Banquet is Friday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m.  The Prom Grand March (open to the public) is Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m.

If you have ever been a High School Junior or Senior, the word ‘date’ has a special springtime meaning.  ‘Prom date’ is not only the day of the Junior/Senior Banquet and Prom Dance; it is the ’social date’ of the year.  Do you have a date?

Well, at HMB, IF a student doesn’t have a special friend to date, it appears there is a ‘rule of thumb - NOT to exclude any who wants to attend’.  Many times, the less socially active (a.k.a. shy) student lags behind. Miraculously, these students find themselves ‘paired-up’ by their buddies. (Because classmates do not want anyone left out.)  This way ALL have the equal opportunity to be part of the “Prom Grand March” (a.k.a. parade of beauties/couples) and the Prom Dance that follows.

Some heartwarming stories surface at Prom time.  One comes to mind of classmates who arranged the date, and bought the dress for one sweet girl who would never been able to attend without her friends help.   (Yes, I remember - she was so happy and also, her date was ‘hot’.) Great job kids!

We want you kids to know, the real beauty is not always the dress, hair style or tux, but in their spirit - the spirit of caring about others.  The attitude - ’ Life is not always about ME’ - promotes love and respect to others and rebounds back to them.

The public hears about all the ‘prom-party-horror-stories’ but not often enough about the good times and happy kids that safely make their way through high school without ‘booze and drugs’.  These students and their parents are to be commended.  Involved parents monitor their kid’s activities and curfews and often invite them to have safe parties at home.  In this way we teach our kids to be considerate and responsible.

It is nice to live in a small community with Parents and Students doing these good things.  I want more good stories to surface.  How about you?  Do you have any good news for this blog site?  Please add your comments.
