Armed Service and Memorial Day

May 19th, 2008 by Sue

May 17 was Armed Forces Day.

We commend and encourage ALL those who are protecting our country by serving in the US armed forces.

Then on May 26,  Memorial Day will be observed. We gratefuly honor those that sacrificed their lives to protect freedom and promote ‘the American way of life’.

We love and memorialize those who died serving our country, but also we must love and care about the troops serving today. Have you written a service man or woman lately?  Do you have a friend or family member in the service?  If you know of someone, take a minute and call for their address, right now. If you do not know anyone, adopt a service man/woman, and become the moral support that person needs. They are in great need your time and letters.

Parents often wonder how to keep your kids busy and out of trouble. Have your student adopt a member of our armed forces and practice some of their writing skills by corresponding this summer. Make time to plan projects and ways to help a soldier. Your local Auxiliary and American Legion Posts can help you.

Another option is to help send boxes to our service men & women through a group called “Supporting Our Troops”. Supporting our Troops is a Nonprofit Corporation collecting and shipping items to various troops serving our country.  For further information write Attn: Rosemary Supporting our Troops 514 N 9th St.  Apt#1, Bismarck ND 58501-4511.

If you wish to volunteer, or donate both are welcome.  Your financial donations assist with postage and packaging costs, as well as purchasing items that are not donated, but are needed by soldiers. Rosemary needs volunteers to  package &  collect items, and help transporting boxes for mailing, etc. Various help is needed by this group.  The person who spearheads this organization is fighting cancer, but continues full force with this project in our state.  Can you help?  - Our troops are counting on those that care.

Do not forget to support your local American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and other Veteran Associations in your area and throughout the US.  You will find US heroes working locally within these organizations. They came ‘home’ to our communities to support and help our local economy and lend their talents to our local area. Recently a gentleman from Seattle created a gesture which could be used and has started a massive movement to get the word out.

Please everybody take just a moment to watch….

The Gratitude Campaign and then forward it to your friends!

I believe our troops need some morale to lift their spirits, I know my nephew does! My nephew followed in his fathers footsteps and enlisted in the army. This Memorial Day he will be oversees protecting our country. I stumbled across this video while trying to send him something inspirational. I hope it gives you as much inspiration as it has for me in supporting our troops on this Memorial Day! God Bless America!
